Financial literacy Club has been formed in May 2021. 130 students from various classes has enrolled in FLC. Club aims to create awareness about financial products and services among girl students..

Under the able guidance of College Principal Dr. Neeru Garg ,  Two days workshop on Financial awareness was organised on 25  Sep. 2025. Financial Literacy cell of SSD Girls college , Financial Literacy Club & Technical skills Committee of SSD Women’s Institute of  Technology Bathinda  organized  this event. This was a 10 hours workshop  on Financial awareness  which aimed at  “Kona Kona Shiksha” a CSR initiative of  Kotak Securities . Key- note speaker of this workshop was an eminent speaker Mr. Kuldeep Gandhi ( SEBI Smart and NCFE  trainer).  65 students attended this workshop .  The main objective of conducting this   workshop under NISM Financial Literacy project was to enrich the young minds about financial planning and all the related aspects like income, saving, investment, return, power of  compounding  , various financial products and financial markets  etc. All the sessions were interactive.  Students were enthusiastic about learning more and more. Dr. Vijay Laxmi ( Coordinator, Financial Literacy Club ,SSDWIT) and Dr Asha Singla ( Asst.Prof. in commerce)were the coordinators of the workshop. Workshop successfully completed on 26 Sep.College Principal Dr. Neeru Garg thanked Mr. Kuldeep Gandhi  for sparing his precious time for the college students. Adv. Sanjay Goyal (President), Sh. Vikas Garg (General Secretary) and Dr. Neeru Garg (Principal) congratulated the  members of Financial Literacy Cells of both the colleges  and Technical skills Committee for organizing this workshop.

Financial Literacy Club and Technical Skills Committee of S. S. D.women’s institute of technology Bathinda and financial literacy club of SSD Girls ‘ college Bathinda  conducted a national webinar in collaboration with Association of Mutual Funds in India   on “STRATEGY FOR Effectively MANAGING PERSONAL FINANCE” .  Dr. Vijay Laxmi (Webinar Convener and co-ordinator FLC) virtually hosted  this national webinar by Zoom platform .Dr Neeru Garg (Principal) welcomed and introduced the   keynote speaker, Shri Suryakant Sharma, (Senior Consultant AMFI & Former DGM SEBI) and Mr. Sabzar Ahmad, moderator of this webinar.   Keynote speaker emphasised the importance of  financial planning. Concept of digital money, real money, inflation, risk and return, futures and options, liquid funds app, mutual funds, health insurance, life insurance, risk appetite, compounding, financial goals and retirement planning were discussed in depth. He  advised  everyone to start early savings,  regular and increased amount of investment every year due to inflation .  This webinar was attended by nearly 315  participants from various parts of country. it was enriched with great knowledge about the effective management of personal finance. Ms. Navita Singla ( Webinar Co-convener ) conducted the query session. Experts resolved all the doubts raised by participants. keynote speaker emphasized that an investor should first think and ensure adequate life insurance, reasonable medical insurance cover and an emergency fund before embarking upon the journey of wealth creation through sustained investments which is most essential for prosperity. He then advised  for regular savings and increase of savings every year minimum by 10%. He then dealt in detail on the need for wealth creation for prosperity and emphasised that investors should not be money accumulator but wealth creator which only would make them comfortable with regard to their money needs for their milestones in life.

He then advised participants that they should look at real return and not on notional return as inflation and tax liability substantially takes away major portion of notional return. He cautioned participants that most of the investments except government schemes have risk but risk can be managed by simple formula – Think, understand and invest. He also emphasized the need to have financial planning of their families in place for focused investment and also the need for practicing rule of compounding in investments for higher return in long run.
He then shared basic information on various investment avenues available in the market viz. Government/RBI bonds, corporate bonds, Government schemes (Post office schemes, PPF, NPS, Sukanya Samriddhi Scheme, securities market etc.  real estate, gold and securities market. All these avenues are different and have distinct features and investors should investment their hard earned money according to his/her risk appetite and time horizon of investment.
Shri Sharma cautioned general investor not to enter into securities market directly as there are inherent risks in the market and unless the investor have sound knowledge of market, sectors, economy, international economy etc. he should resist from entering into the market directly. Instead, mutual funds are the best option available for general investor wherein he/she can invest a minimum amount of Rs.500/- though Systematic Investment Plan (SIP) and built a good corpus over a period of time. He also mentioned that in mutual funds there are number of shames as per risk appetite and time horizon of investors. There is a wide spectrum of mutual funds schemes ranging from equity funds to debt funds to exchange traded funds which can be chosen by an investor as per his risk appetite and investment horizon.
At the end, he emphatically cautioned participants not to invest their hard earned money on the advice of others including agents and never invest in unregulated fund mobilisation schemes – Ponzi scheme, chit funds and committees etc. – which give assurance for higher and quick return at the beginning but ultimately vanish with the hard earned money of investors. Not so affluent class of investors are more susceptible to such allurement and we all have a social responsibility to make them aware about the menace of such schemes and impress upon them not to invest their money in such schemes. He also informed that as per a survey, investors have lost more than ten lakh crores of rupees in such unregulated fund mobilisation schemes.
Participants asked lot of questions on personal finance which were satisfactorily answered by the experts.Dr.Neetu Goyal, HOD , proposed
 vote of thanks. Dr. Neeru Garg  asked the  financial literacy club coordinators  to conduct more such events in future.

students of of SSD Women’s Institute of Technology Bathinda visited Master Capital Bathinda on 8th May 2025.Under the guidance of Dr. Neeru Garg ( Principal, SSDWIT), this field visit was organised by Technical skills committee and Financial Literacy Club for the students of management. Mr. Smith Bansal, owner Master Capital gave them practical knowledge of various stock market operations. Students learned about trading mechanism, future and equity transactions, concept of NSE & BSE, Sensex and Nifty, how to place, cancel and modify the order, stop loss , limit order, day order, intra day trading, money control app and many more. Students asked various queries and gained a lot in this informative session. Dr. Vijay Laxmi(Assoc.Prof.in Mgt.), and Ms. Navita Singla ( Asst. Prof.in Management) expressed gratitude to Mr. Smith for the session enriched with knowledge.

“FINQUEST: A Finance Quiz” was conducted by the Financial Literacy Club on 19th Feb. 2024. This was conducted under the guidance of Dr.Neeru Garg (Principal). An effort was done to generate interest among students towards the importance of financial literacy. Coordinator of the Financial Literacy Club , Dr.Vijay Laxmi (Associate Professor, Management) conducted this event. All the faculty members welcomed Dr. Neeru Garg by presenting a bouquet. There were four rounds Rapid fire round, Audience poll, Identification round and Video clipping round. Twinkle, Nikita & Rumpa represented the team Risk Rangers . Dhanisha, Rajbir and Paramjit represented the team Cash Queens *. Mohini, Gorushi & Tamanna represented the team *Money Munchkins. Fourth team , Number Ninjas* was represented by Kamalpreet , Simranjeet and Manisha. Number Ninjas scored highest and won the first position.Money Munchkins claimed the second position. All students witnessed an enthusiastic participation. Dr. Neeru Garg (Principal) distributed momentum to the winning teams and motivated them to always take part in such activities.

 

A session on finance related issues was organised under the able guidance of Dr. Neeru Garg (Principal SSDWIT and SSDGC) by Financial Literacy Club of SSDWIT on 28 April, 2023. Topic of the presentation was how to control your financial future. Dr. Vijay Laxmi (FLC co-ordinator and Associate Prof. Mgt. Dept.) gave a power point presentation on this. She discussed about Saving goals, compounding effect, BSE , investor grievances , modes of filing complaint , financial products available in markets, recent developments and many more. The students of MBA and MCA attended this lecture. The questions were asked from the students which were based on power point presentation. Tongue twister in finance, lateral thinking games and online finance management games were the part of this. Students participated in session very enthusiastically. Dr. Neeru Garg (Principal, SSDGC & SSDWIT) distributed prizes and certificates to the winners.

To celebrate the International Women’s Day, the Financial Literacy Club of SSDWIT conducted an Investor Awareness Program in collaboration with National Securities Depository Limited (NSDL). All the faculty members welcomed Dr. Neeru Garg (Principal, SSDWIT)with bouquet. Dr. Vijay Laxmi (Associate Prof.& Coordinator, FLC) gave a power point presentation on investor awareness and role of depositories. Along with all the faculty members 45 students of management and computer department attended this lecture. This International Women’s Day was celebrated with a difference by learning the financial skills, tips for safe investing. Prudent investor norms, depositories, Demat account, types of securities, why to invest ,when to invest, role of depositories , rule of compounding, trading mechanism, Saarthi app and many more.

 

Activities Conducted Webinar on “Strategy for managing personal finance” was conducted on 24th Nov. 2021 in association with AMFI . Sh. Suryakant Sharma(Sr. Consultant AMFI and former DGM SEBI) was the Resource Person. Dr.Neeru Garg(Principal SSDWIT) was Patron, Dr.Vijay Laxmi(Assistant Professor in Management) was Convener and Ms. Preetima (Assistant Professor in Computer Science) was Co-Convener.
E-Quiz on Financial Awareness was conducted from 24th June 2022 to 30th June 2022.
Introductory Session on significance of financial education was organised on Oct 2022. Dr. Neeru Garg(Principal SSDWIT) addressed all the students.

 

An Introductory session on Financial Awareness was conducted by Financial Literacy Club. Dr. Neeru Garg , Principal SSDWIT addressed the students. She shared her views on savings and it’s significance and motivated the students to take initiative for new start-ups. 81 students participated and many of them discussed their ideas in this session.
Activities conducted till now and to be conducted in future by Financial Literacy Club were discussed with students by FLC Co-ordinators. Dr. Neeru Garg appreciated the efforts of Co-ordinator Dr. Vijay Laxmi.
